On June 24, 2026, two devastating earthquakes—a magnitude 7.2 and a 7.5—struck Venezuela just 39 seconds apart. Entire neighborhoods across Caracas and La Guaira collapsed. Nearly 800 buildings were destroyed. More than 1,900 people lost their lives, over 10,500 were injured, and tens of thousands remain missing.
For many survivors, there were no emergency crews to rely on. Families searched for loved ones with shovels, ropes, and their bare hands.
For years, Venezuela has endured one of the world's largest humanitarian crises. Millions have been forced to leave their homes, hospitals and public services have struggled for decades, and countless families were already living with very little.
I am a Venezuelan entrepreneur who built Sister Store in the United States. Although I now live far from home, Venezuela will always be part of me.
